National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey by the CDC (2010)

The 2010 Summary Report of the NISVS by the CDC gives updated statistics about stalking victimization, violence by an intimate partner and impact of violence by an intimate partner. Some of the interesting statistics include:

  • Nearly 1 in 5 women have been raped  and nearly 1 in 2 women have experienced sexual violence other than rape at some time in their lives;
  • Approximately 80% of female rape victims were assaulted before the age of 25 and one-quarter of male rape victims were assaulted by the age of 10; and,
  • More than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 4 men have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
